Planting 190,000 trees

BESTSELLER Foundation will plant 50,000 peatland trees in Borneo in partnership with Borneo Nature Foundation and 140,000 mangrove trees in the Philippines in partnership with Zoological Society of London (ZSL) from August to December 2022.

'Giving the gift of nature' was a part of BESTSELLER's Annual New Year Gift on behalf of all colleagues in 2021. For nature – and all of us who depend on it. Because when done right, planting trees can help combat climate change, foster biodiversity and regenerate nature.

We must continue to support the well-being of our natural world. We are completely dependent on it and we need to take better care of it, so it can continue to take good care of us.

Why peatland trees?

Borneo’s vast peatland forests are home to the largest orangutan populations in the world, provide economic and social benefits for indigenous communities and form one of the most important terrestrial carbon stores on the planet. They are under threat from annual fires resulting from decades of poor management, which in the worst years cause major losses of forest and biodiversity, expose millions of people to a toxic smoke haze and release more CO2 emissions than the entire EU.

Why mangrove trees?

Mangroves play a critical role in climate change mitigation, storing huge amounts of carbon dioxide. They also protect the coastline from erosion and provide important nursery grounds for fish as well as food, shelter and construction materials for local communities
