Regen Organics

Regen Organics has a zero-waste model that showcases how regenerative agricultural practices can help address some of the most critical challenges across the food systems value chain. This includes decline in land productivity, limited competitive domestic production, and unsustainable management of food waste - challenges that must be resolved to ensure food security for an exponentially growing population.

Regen Organics manufactures sustainable agricultural inputs from residual organics through an industrial scale production system that is cost-effective, replicable, and profitable. The residual organics are converted into insect protein through the rearing of black soldier fly larvae, organic fertilizer through thermophilic co-composting, and biomass briquettes through compression.

The impact is tangible and most importantly scalable across the African continent and beyond. Not only by safely managing residual organics, which pose an environmental and public health threat in emerging economies, but moreover because the agricultural inputs help foster sustainable agriculture practices.

The insect protein is sold to livestock farmers and feed millers and replaces the need for fish and soy meals to reduce pressure on fish-stocks and protect further land degradation, the fertiliser is sold to small- and large-scale farmers to enhance soil health, and the briquettes are sold to local industries, replacing the need for unsustainable fuels. In sum, Regen Organics’ zero-waste approach builds prosperous, inclusive, and climate resilient communities by creating local recycling loops.

Our engagement

While we have known Regen Organics for longer, we invested  in 2022. The investment is a cornerstone investment in our portfolio of climate-tech entrepreneurs that will showcase a viable path to scaling circular solutions in food systems. We are looking forward to supporting Regen Organics’ expansion journey across the African continent and furthering the gender inclusion agenda, which Regen Organics has already promoted through their sales and distribution networks.
