Gracela uses agricultural waste to produce carbonised and non-carbonized briquette in Uganda. The briquettes are sold to households, schools, small factories, etc.

Grace Nalugwa is the founder and CEO of Gracela Ventures, based in Kagoma, Kawempe division, Kampala District.

She is an award winning young entrepreneur determined to reduce deforestation in her community and change the way people cook, by replacing charcoal with sustainable briquettes.

Our engagement

Gracela was part of our Waste-to-Value Accelerator from 2020 to 2021. Throughout the programme, Grace impressed everybody with her commitment to grow Gracela. Due to the relatively early stage of Gracela, the Foundation invested through a recoverable grant, which will go towards machinery to expand operations.
