While our core focus is to invest in ventures and intermediaries that build a resilient, inclusive future, we also strive to drive catalytic initiatives that create an enabling environment for our pipeline and portfolio.

We are looking for a new team member to help grow our portfolio of impactful start-ups and interventions across Sub-Saharan Africa.

As our new investment director, you’ll play an active role in the sourcing, screening, and deal-making of all the Foundation’s direct and indirect investments. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring portfolio success by working directly with portfolio companies and leading strategic initiatives benefitting the pipeline and portfolio at large.

The responsibilities

  • Collaborate with portfolio companies on their growth journey, ensuring they’re appropriately supported to reach their potential.
  • Design and implement catalytic initiatives in support of the pipeline and portfolio, including driving the Foundation’s emerging blended finance initiatives
  • Manage parts of the portfolio, including representing the Foundation on Boards
  • Build co-investment consortia and develop strong relationships with co-investors, follow-on investors, key advisors, and other stakeholders
  • Represent the Foundation in local ecosystems, at conferences, etc.
  • Set agendas and shape catalytic initiatives to support a nourishing ecosystem and mobilize financing for wider social and environmental impact

What you bring

  • +6 years of experience in impact investing in Sub-Saharan Africa; perhaps you’ve worked for an intermediary advising multiple clients and structuring deals, or you’ve been at a venture fund, or founded / operated a company
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills
  • Ability to think strategically and handle ambiguity
  • Team-oriented, with an ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results
  • Demonstrated experience working with entrepreneurs and growth ventures
  • Demonstrated ‘entrepreneurial’ skills, ie. implementing and leading new initiatives

What we offer

  • Competitive compensation package and generous leave package
  • Flat organisational structure, where everybody contributes to the development of the Foundation
  • High focus on professional development and fulfilment

Location

  • Flexible, preferably one of the main start-up ecosystems in SSA; Nairobi, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Lagos, etc.
