Project timeline: Nine months
Focus area: Nigeria

THIS IS US leads Farm to Craft, an initiative working to regenerate Northern Nigeria’s natural indigo ecosystem.

For generations, indigo craft connected farmers, processors, artisans, and traders across an interconnected ecosystem. Farm to Craft aims to rebuild these connections and strengthen the conditions for local knowledge and creative skills to generate income and economic opportunity.

BESTSELLER Foundation is funding the first three phases of the project, focusing on research and activation around  a historic indigo dye community, farms and processing networks. The work will lay the groundwork for a larger fourth phase focused on their renovation. All research and results will be made publicly accessible in an interactive archive.

By reconnecting craft, skills, and enterprise, the initiative aims to strengthen livelihoods and create new opportunities around an ecosystem rooted in local knowledge and craftsmanship. In doing so, Farm to Craft demonstrates how creativity and skills can form the foundation for greater economic opportunity.
